On Thursday (August 30), two weeks after Justin ‘BeatKing’ Riley‘s passing, family and friends held his funeral. In addition to celebrities like Bun B, BeatKing’s eldest daughter, Jayla, delivered a eulogy.
A video of Jayla choosing to embody her late father’s playful energy during her speech went viral overnight. As previously reported, the popular Houston producer and DJ passed away on August 15 at age 39.
BeatKing’s manager and rep at the time of his death, Tasha Felder, later revealed to the press that he died from a pulmonary embolism. Felder was also present at BeatKing’s funeral, alongside his two living daughters, Jayla and her younger sister Kayla.
BeatKing’s Daughter Takes Playful Jabs At Her Late Father
According to the Houston Chronicle, the producer’s service was held at the Bayou City Event Center in his hometown, Houston, Texas.
Jayla began her eulogy by introducing herself as BeatKing’s eldest “and favorite” daughter. She laughed along with the crowd and then explained why she wasn’t shedding tears. Meanwhile, her younger sister Kayla stood nearby, wiping her face.
“When I talk about my dad, a lot expect me to start crying and stuff, but he was just way too goofy, way too lame, too annoying, to just cry over. He would not want me to cry over him. I always make sure I keep a smile on my face cause I know that’s what he would want me to do. See, a lot of you guys know BeatKing, a lot of you guys know Justin, but I know somebody that only two people on this Earth know, and that’s dad.”
She described her late father as the “goofiest person on the planet” and again took playful jabs at him. Jayla recalled how her dad would try to suggest his barber when she needed money to get her hair done.
But BeatKing’s daughter really had the audience in stitches when she cracked a jokey joke about her dad’s love for Whataburger.
“I know all of us here are very devastated with the passing, but I just feel like personally, nobody can be more upset than Whataburger. Without him, Whataburger would be going bankrupt probably.”

More Details On The Producer’s Memorial Services
Photos of the memorial services available via Getty Images show his loved ones smiling while posing next to enlarged posters of him. Additionally, there was a balloon release featuring more than 50 black balloons. An urn containing Justin’s ashes, his plaque for the song ‘Then Leave,’ and his beloved sneakers were all part of several displays.
As mentioned, Bun B also took the mic at one point to speak on Justin Riley’s impact on the city with his music. Other local artists to speak included Michael Watts and Mon’ro. Popular radio host Kiotti Brown and DJ Csharp also gave eulogies.
However, it’s unclear if BeatKing’s girlfriend, Talameshia, spoke at the memorial. She did repost footage from the service, and the flyers for it on her feed. Earlier this month, she broke her silence on Justin’s death by sharing a montage of throwback videos with a lengthy caption about how she’s handling it.
